Geduld und Gorillas >> penguins

I was introduced to a beautifull book of a 20 year history of Lucerne school of art. Thie books consists of existing students as well as teachers such as Pierre Thome and Mike Mchinnary.
I could buy it for 20SF instead of 60SF which ithink it is a bargain but im not sure if i do buy it where i would put it to bring home.

Storyboarding - Preparation

For the remainder of the semeseter we have 2 remaining projects, instead of just supplying us with the project they have over the past couple of weeks been preparing us for it. Within the first week we had a creative writing week dealing with the 'figure' creating a character. We began by bringing in a photograph of ouselves as a child and then we would swap the pictures and then explain the charecter from this images with the lack of knowledge of who it is.
We then created a story from this, the exercise was there to delve into more depth of the act of storytelling.

For the second week i have worked with Pierre Thome the course leader - we looked at the art of storyboarding, each day we were given an exercise involving the different aspects that need to be taken into consideration when creating a storyboard / narrative / comic.

  1. we were asked to draw a self portrait for a political campaign
  2. to draw a location 4 different ways
  3. my favourite was to draw our biography in 4 images (images will be posted soon)
  4. We were given an article and then asked to create 1-12 frames to interpret the story however we see it.

This has been a very beneficial week, i feel i have learned a great deal in terms of how to go about creating storyboards and how to visualise a story to produce certain meanings more effectively.

Colourful Capital

I visited Bern on the 14th of March, i decided i needed a break, the capital of Switzerland. It lived up to its expectations it was great. On the day i was lucky enough to see the food market and the Market of hand made craft i didn't buy anything on the day because well i cant fit it in the case. I went there for the day and i am planning a second visit soon enough.

Morning Lucerne

Morning sun on Lucerne, i stayed with a few friends after a night out they have the luxury of living minutes away from the university campus whereas I live a good 20min
away. Also there balcony has some beautiful views, I was jealous considering from my room I can see a McDonald's sign closely dwarfed by mount pilatus none the less its still there. Any way thought i would share with you some different scenery.enjoy.

Project 1 - 'family'

My first project was with Mike Mchinnery, we were all given a subject matter and then asked to explore it and to in the end produce a publish item, majority of the class produced either a folded item or booklet, i was getting used to many things at this time therefore i was not as at the races as i had wished but i feel my efforts were fine and i learned alot of the other students...one that they are all really talented which in many ways has helped me raise my own level.
Also i enjoy the fact that we all have our own individual space even tho my position within the room is one of too much exposure to my liking but i am coping with it the Best i can...i feel for the 1st project i spent too much time within the university which at first may not seem like a bad thing but i felt it hindered progression of the subject...but hey lessons learnt.

Also the ironic subject matter of 'Family' really hit me hard for a few days of the project my mind was elsewhere obviously towards my family, but i did receive a package from home which was nice.

Carnival - night images

As you can see the party didnt end untill late at night...it began at 5.00 in the morning everyday and didnt finsih untill 1am officially but many people carried on further.

Carnival - Day Pictures

The Carnival lasted 2 weeks in total and in my opinion that's one of the things that makes it so special, everybody dresses up in all kinds of mystical and comical costumes, they all come together as a community to dance away the winter and to sing in the the spring.
I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the constant noise within lucerne. I was glad i lived within Emmenbruke because otherwise i would have got no sleep for the duration of the 2 weeks.
I was quite lucky to experience this event they are many people within Switzerland who have not been within lucerne when it has been on, which i was surprised at.
Overall a gd event...the local beer and cheese were strange in parts but overall excellent, recommend the carnival to anyone!
